These two amorous young screech owls are original paintings by me – hand painted with acrylic paint.

Eastern screech owls come in three colors gray, brown, or a reddish/orange rust color that is mottled with darker gray. The reddish/orange rust colored screech owl is called a red morph. The brown morph has a lot of grays with browns. The grey morph has overall tones of grey. Pictured here are the brown morph and the red morph. The eastern screech owls will inter-mate between morphs, so they are indiscriminate of color when choosing a mate. The male will do a dance for the female, and if she likes it, she will move closer to him and eventually they will touch beaks. Eastern screech owls mate for life (The Owl Pages). https://www.owlpages.com/owls/species.php?s=850

I love night walks, listening to the chorus of nature in the South.  The frogs and crickets dominate the melody, but occasionally the call of an owl can be heard. Living in the country with minor light pollution allows a good view of the stars. The display is magnificent. My latest painting of Barn Owls provided a deep study of their feathers. Female barn owls have deeper richer colors than their pale male counterparts. The pattern of their feathers seem to contain little galaxies of stars reflecting the night sky. They are truly beautiful creatures.

Prints are available on Society6 and redbubble at the following links:

2016 is almost ending

It is hard to believe that 2016 is coming to a close. A lot has happened this year. My son graduated high school and started college. It was hard leaving him at college and missing having him home, but he has done very well this semester, achieving all A’s. I am a proud mom. Also, this year I started selling my art on two online shops – redbubble and society6. The shops and other artists have encouraged me to create new works of art. I haven’t updated this blog with all of my new art, so if you want to see the new work, check out my shops. Society6 is the most up to date. I plan on getting redbubble up to date soon.

Currently, I am working on an illustration of a fishing bear, and hope to complete that soon. This image shows the current state of the painting. I still have a bit of detail to complete and the background. If you want to keep up with my art, you can also follow me on facebook and like my facebook art page: https://www.facebook.com/Ruth.Ventrello.Art/
